If you were wondering what the best-reviewed iOS and 'droid games on the web last month were, here are the iPhone Quality Index, iPad Quality Index, and Android Quality Index round-ups for October to fill you in.

The iPhone, iPad, and Android Quality Indexes boast over 650,000 reviews (in total) from websites like 148Apps, Pocket Gamer, and Gamezebo, and use a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iOS and Android title.

6 is the magic number

It's incredibly refreshing to see DEVICE 6 topping October's iPhone Qi (and iPad Qi) games chart.

The way Simogo blends the worlds of literature and adventure gaming here has to be seen to be understood.

Suffice it to say, this game's a wee bit special.

In fifth place on the iPad Qi October chart is Empire, which has been impressing the iOS critics with its incredibly mobile-friendly blend of strategy, boardgame, and deck-building elements. You'll be building empires of a different kind in A Story of a Band, as Veli-Matti Tormanen makes managing an aspiring rock band seem like the most fun job in the world. Fans of Kairosoft's output should definitely take a look.

Topping October's Android Qi games chart, meanwhile, is Reaper, which marks the triumphant return of Hexage.

This time around, the esteemed developer has created a compelling action-RPG with neat bite-sized levels.

Nothing so serious in third place this month, mind, with Dumb Ways to Die delighting all with its 15 madcap mini-games.

Tap and flick your way to victory in this impossibly polished timewaster.

Sticking with the humorous theme, you have to beat up bears in Nicoll Hunt's retro beat-'em-up Fist of Awesome. As you do.

N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the lists are generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all. And, naturally, these are static graphs based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge.

In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the iOS and Android games released each month to provide the definitive Quality Index top tens.
