Updated on November 6th, at 9:49: This Call of Duty companion app is now available on Android, too.

There are a few complaints of bugs and errors in the app's user reviews, mind, so your mileage may vary.

However did we manage to play video games on consoles before the advent of second-screen apps?

It must have been like flailing around in the dark, our unguided fingers only occasionally connecting with the required button.

Well, fear not if you've just bought Activision's latest man shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts. That's because you can download an app from the App Store right this second that'll help you keep track of the comings, goings, and guns.

It's just called Call of Duty, and it won't cost you a penny.

With this companion CoD app, you can manage and stay in touch with your clan. And if you sync the app with your copy of the console game, you can tweak your loadouts before multiplayer games.

World War Two screens

There's something called "Clan Wars" in the app, too. Essentially, this is a meta-game in which you fight against other clans, winning rewards such as extra customisation options and bonus XP for multiplayer.

And, of course, you can keep up to date with all of the CoD: Ghosts news, keep track of your career stats, and alert friends to your CoD availability directly from the app.

The Call of Duty companion app is available from the App Store right now for nowt.
