You might remember last week we revealed that a new Blur game was heading to iPhone and iPad.

You might recall that we were quite excited about the prospect of smashing and crashing in a high-octane arcade racer.

Well, this new Blur-based game, which goes by the name of Blur Overdrive, is out on the App Store right now. And it's not quite the super-exciting metal-grinding experience for which we were hoping.

It's free-to-play, so there are lots of wait timers and currency to purchase to expedite your fun, but that's par for the course with most racers on the App Store nowadays.

Marmalade takes a top-down approach to racing here, with acceleration taken out of your hands. Through a variety of buttons, you can control the direction you're speeding, your brakes, and the race-changing weapons you pick up.

It's all well put together and there are nods to the masterful console experience that inspired this portable port.

From the brief time we've spent with the game, though, it's not immediately clear whether the dev has managed to capture some of the madness of the game's predecessor.

If you want to find out for yourself, you can grab Blur Overdrive for nothing from the App Store [download] right now. It's out on Google Play [download], too, if Android's more your thing.
