Treacherous Android game Terrene hides its intergalactic secret beneath a classic arcade homage

Sometimes, it's hard to beat the classic arcade games of the 1970s and 1980s. Unless, that is, a game comes along that adds a whole new dimension to them.

That's what Terrene appears to be doing.

Terrene wears a disguise. It shares the exact same look as the arcade game Asteroids. But it's far from a replica.

For starters, instead of shooting the asteroids surrounding your space ship, in Terrene you use them, in combination with your ship's tractor beam, to move through space.

If that sounds extremely dangerous, that's because it very much is. The asteroids are your means of travel, but are also the biggest threat as collision with them means taking a lot of damage.

But that's not all...

"A vast and nearly-forgotten lore invented by civilizations around the world is waiting to be uncovered," reveals developer Juno Nguyen.

Sound enticing? You can give Terrene a shot by purchasing it on Google Play [buy] for 50p. While there's no plans for an iOS version, a Windows Phone port is on the way. So there's that.
