Imagine a world where people get excited about a twee simulation in which you send trains all across the globe in a bid to build the best rail freight company in the universe.

Actually, you don't have to imagine that world. That's because it's the one in which we're living.

The object of our collective rail-based obsession is NimbleBit's Pocket Trains, to which the San Diego-based studio has just attached a firm release date.

The chuff-y rail rider will pull into the App Store and the Google Play Store on September 26th. By my calculations, that's next Thursday.

With Pocket Trains, NimbleBit looks to have gone down a similar route to the one it took for Gold Award-winning airline sim Pocket Planes.

So, you'll send out trains packed with passengers and other items, earning cash as you go. With this cash, you can buy trains and stations.

It's the old adage come to life. First, you get the money. Then, you get the trains. Then, you get the power. And some more trains.

Anyway, Pocket Trains should be trundling onto smartphones and tablets near you next week. In the meantime, why not check out our hands-on preview with Pocket Trains.
