A little backstory is probably in order here...

Final Fantasy Type-0 was a PSP-exclusive action-RPG set within the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology that was only released in Japan.

When it was first announced, though, it was called Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and it was a mobile game. Then, the 'Agito XIII' bit was dropped, and the game was reconfigured for the PSP, where it took up two UMDs. That's quite a lot of UMDs.

The game scored 39/40 when it was reviewed by Japanese gaming bible Famitsu, and is generally considered to be pretty ruddy good. Despite the occasional murmuring from Squeenix, however, it never made it to Western shores.

Fast-forward a bit

Now, though, as spotted over on NeoGAF, a new iOS game from Square Enix entitled Final Fantasy Agito has been teased in the latest edition of Famitsu. As you can imagine, a lot of people have gone crazy.

We don't know that much about the game right now, but we DO know that it's being produced by the man who directed the original, Hajime Tabata.

We also know that it should be out sometime between now and spring 2014; that it's going to be free-to-play; and that a lot of you just died inside when you read that last fact.

Agitated

In Final Fantasy Agito, you'll be playing as a student. There will be a job system and a mission system. Oh, and the game is cut up into different chapters, with new chapters being released every two weeks.

Right now, all of this information resides in the realm of speculation. And, no, we don't know whether Final Fantasy Agito is going to hit the UK and US App Stores.

We will, of course, keep you posted if and when we find out anything else about this game.
