Three months in, Despicable Me: Minion Rush hits 100 million downloads

Gameloft has announced its breakout free-to-play success story, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, has been downloaded over 100 million times across the App Store and Google Play.

Said milestone comes less than two months after it hit 50 million downloads in its first 30 days, with SVP of production
Julien Fournials claiming that its success is down to the "authenticity" of the license.

Not so despicable after all

Free-to-play success for Gameloft has not been easy, though a look at Despicable Me: Minion Rush's success back in July suggested the publisher finally understood the model.

"Looking at individual territories, the game has done very well in the US and the UK; respectively peaking at #10 top grossing on iPhone in the UK and #12 top grossing on iPhone in the US," noted editor-at-large Jon Jordan at the time.

"It appears that the game's performance is fairly dependent on the film franchise's draw."

In addition to celebrating 100 million downloads, Gameloft announced that it will release a new update for Despicable Me: Minion Rush this week which introduces a new environment - The Minion Beach - along with new costumes and plenty of 'cute Minion moments'.
