Combat Cats fuses brick matching puzzles with explosive RPG-like combat between felines and fishes

I'm sure some of you will scowl at the mere mention of a match-3 puzzle game. But you should give Combat Cats a chance.

Because here's a game featuring a catnip-craving kitty army, fighting against the furious fishes of the Aquarium Alliance in aerial battles. A bit crazy, but hey, it adds some character.

You play on the side of the felines and must match four tiles depicting the same weapon to fire at the fishes. You have missiles, freeze, poison, a machine gun, and a repair mechanism for your plane.

When you match your tiles, you'll see the results play out at the top of the screen. It's fun, and very satisfying.

There are also nukes to watch out for. Hitting one of these will let off a nuclear warhead, which takes out a load of fish in one go. In the meantime, the fish will be plaguing your tiles with bubbles you need to pop, lest they take over the screen.

Outside of battles, you can upgrade your weapons and buy new ships. You earn coin by matching the coin tiles, and you also earn catnip to spend by beating levels quickly.

The game does have IAPs so you can buy more coins, but it doesn't shove it in your face. In fact, you have to explore the shop menu on your own accord to find them.

Combat Cats is due for arrival on September 9th, and is coming to iOS and Android for 69p / 99c, and it'll be $1.49 on Windows 8.
