With Retro City Rampage, Vblank Entertainment embraces the past in a loving death grip.

Full of parodies, cheeky winks, and references, it's already won a coveted Pocket Gamer Gold Award on PS Vita (see review above).

Pretty soon, though, Retro City Rampage will be heading to the 3DS, meaning fans of Nintendo's extra-dimensional console can finally get their hands on some brilliant 8-bit-style violence.

Nintendo outed the 3DS version of the game in a post about playable games at next week's PAX Prime expo in Seattle.

Vblank then sent some screenshots of Retro City Rampage running on a 3DS to Destructoid, one of which is posted above. You can check the rest out in the gallery at the top of the page.

At review, we said that the PS Vita version of Retro City Rampage "pummels you with fantastic video game and movie references throughout, and has the gameplay to back up the funny".

There's no word yet on a release date for the 3DS edition of Retro City Rampage. Rest assured, though: we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything. Promise.
