[Update] Out now: Skid your way into the lead in Gameloft's Asphalt 8
Updated on August 22nd, at 12:14: Well, that was quick. Asphalt 8: Airborne is now available from the Google Play Store, too. It'll set you back 69p [buy].

Original story follows...

Gameloft's latest high-octane racer Asphalt 8: Airborne will speed onto the UK and US App Stores later tonight.

And if you're hoping for a Burnout-inspired, crash-heavy driving experience, you won't be disappointed.

While Real Racing 3 wanders down the realism road, Asphalt 8 has taken a different track, with crazy drifts, flips, barrel rolls, and an emphasis on barging over finesse here.

There are 47 cars to buy and paint, and plenty of tracks for you to race on.

A 180-event career mode set across nine different environments all around the world, including Iceland and the Nevada desert, makes up the bulk of the single-player content.

Then, there's an impressive multiplayer suite featuring both online and asynchronous modes. So, you can finally show your friends and foes who's best at doing flips in an Audi R8.

You can also play Infected tag and race against ghosts, all in fully licensed supercars. Your car can take damage, too, and opposing players will be constantly trying to shunt you into the scenery.

There's the inevitable pumping soundtrack, some gorgeous visuals, and plenty of hidden shortcuts, too.

Asphalt 8: Airborne will be out at midnight tonight in the UK and US. It'll set you back 69p / 99c.
