Gamescom '13: Sony cuts PS Vita price to $199, €199

Memory cards to see a 'significant' reduction as well

Gamescom '13: Sony cuts PS Vita price to $199, €199

Early last summer, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida stridently said 'no' to the prospect of a PS Vita price cut

But at Gamescom this week, Sony's Jim Ryan did a complete about-face and gave the official greenlight to a Vita price drop.

Saying that the goal of the price reduction was to help more gamers find their way to the Vita, Ryan announced that the PS Vita would see its price drop to $199 in the US and €199 in Europe.

Cards up their sleeve

This puts the PS Vita on even footing with the 3DS XL, which currently retails for about $199 in the US and €199 in Europe - or, at least it would if new Vita owners didn't need to shell out for a proprietary memory card to complete their system.

In an effort to ease this additional purchase pain, Sony promised that the memory cards would see a 'significant' price reduction in both regions as well.

The price cut on the Vita goes into effect immediately, we'll keep you updated on the price drop on the memory cards as soon as we know more.
