A year and a half has passed since Terry Cavanagh's super-tough retro space-faring platformer VVVVVV went live on the 3DS eShop.

We gave it a Gold Award at review, describing this minimalist leaper as "essential indie gaming, now on the go."

Back then in January 2012, mind, it was already two years old. Now, though, it looks like VVVVVV is finally going to make the jump over to Sony's PS Vita.

In a tweet by Tyrone Rodriguez (of VVVVVV publisher Nicalis), a screenshot of the game running on a Vita is clearly shown. The image is accompanied by the words "PS VVVVVVita!!!!!!"

Rodriguez's tweet came as a pleasant surprise to all of us here at Pocket Gamer's deep space research centre. It also seemed to take Cavanagh by surprise somewhat, for he replied to Rodriguez's tweet by saying that he had no idea the port was still happening.

There hasn't been an official announcement for VVVVVV on Vita yet. But it IS Monday, so tweets and slightly skewed images are basically news gold.

We will, of course, keep you posted as soon as we find out anything more concrete about the Vita version of VVVVVV.

Just bear in mind that an iOS version of VVVVVV has been "coming soon" since October 2012.
