Out at midnight: Swing through a brand-new platforming adventure in BeaverTap's Mikey Hooks
Hooks, line, and swinger
We all know that the best games have a hook. Something that sticks in your brain. A reason for you to play and re-play the game over and over again.
It looks like Mikey Hooks dev BeaverTap Games has taken that notion a bit literally, though.
Mikey Hooks is the sequel to the Silver Award-winning Mikey Shorts. Remarkably enough, BeaverTap follows a similar template to Mikey Hooks's predecessor in this new game, albeit with the addition of a grappling hook.
Once again, then, you lead the jovial Mikey through a series of bite-sized levels. Though none of these levels is particularly taxing to complete, all of them require some twitchy talent on your part to complete in a quick time.
Then, of course, there's that new hook mechanic, which enables you to grab onto certain chunks of the scenery to swing over obstacles.
Combined with the knee-sliding move of the first game, this hook mechanic makes for some pleasingly fast platforming action.
Mikey Hooks is out in New Zealand right now, which means it should be surfacing on the UK and US App Stores at midnight tonight. When it does, it'll set you back £1.49 / $1.99.
