This week on the PS Vita Store: Superfrog HD, PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD, and free PS Plus games
|

In this week's round-up of new games on the PS Vita store, 'HD' is very much the buzzword. Or buzz-abbreviation. Whatever.

It's all about HD remakes of classic games this week, you see. Because, you know, HD is totally in right now.

Oh, it's also 'Happy PS Plus week' once again, as PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to a whole new set of free games. Yippee.

Furthermore, the PlayStation Mobile section of the store has been restocked with some noteworthy new releases. So, take note. It's worth it.

Let's get cracking, then, chaps...

Full-price releases

Superfrog HD is first up this week. It's an HD remake of the '90s platformer, with new visuals, slightly different level design, and plenty of extra goodies.

I thought it was good, but not great. In my opinion, it just hasn't aged very well.

PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD is an HD version of the PS3 tower defence game. In all honesty, I didn't enjoy the original much at all, but this version may well tickle my fancy. This costs £9.99 / $14.99.

You can also grab Puzzle by Nikoli V Slitherlink. Expect to crack a few sudoku-like puzzles here. RRP? $4.99.

There's a ton of games on sale, too, as part of the PS Store Summer Festival.

Every single one of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona games is available at cut price, while Retro City Rampage is now a very cheap £3.99.

PlayStation Plus games and offers

It's a good week for PS Plus subscribers, let me tell you. A very, very good week, in fact.

In Europe, you can download Lego The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game and When Vikings Attack for free. Both are good fun. Trust.

You also get a further 10 percent off any of the games in the PS Store Summer Sale. Nothing to be sniffed at, boy.

As for you Americans, well, you can grab Dokuro for free. You can also get 20 percent off PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD.

PlayStation Mobile releases

The world of PS Mobile is an interesting one this week.

First up is Ten By Eight, a puzzle game from Action Button Entertainment (the team behind the wonderful Ziggurat and the equally wonderful Dyad).

It appears to be a match-three game that revolves around swapping tiles. Doesn't sound like the most innovative experience on the face of it, but there's bound to be a twist. It costs £2.39.

Roll in the Hole is a 2-year-old casual puzzle game from Chillingo. To be perfectly honest, we didn't think it was all that great first time around. It costs £1.19, if you're interested.

Finally, there's iBomber Defense, another old mobile game from Chillingo. On this occasion, though, we're talking about a gem. £2.19 to you. And him.

Back again next week.
