Top 5 games to keep you cool during the heatwave this weekend

It's going to be hot this weekend in the UK. No, seriously.

The sort of hot where you just want to lie on the floor of the kitchen with the fridge door open all day. Or fill the bath with ice and beer and slip into a cool, drunken coma for a couple of days.

But those things are horribly irresponsible and could lead to your fridge exploding.

Instead, why not digitally 'cool' yourself off with this selection of ice-cold and sparklingly refreshing iOS games, then? Yeah.

Just bear in mind that these games won't actually cool you down. Because, well, they're just games. So, you might want to find some shade to play in first. But that's really up to you.

Scurvy Scallyways (iPad, iPhone)

Nothing cools you down better than a strong sea breeze and a barrel full of rich, dark rum.

Of course, you might quickly warm up fighting all the skeleton pirates and digging up all the buried treasure. You'll be so drunk, though, that you won't care.

Super Lemonade Factory (iPad, iPhone)

A lovely cool glass of fresh lemonade should do the trick. Luckily, you're going to be surrounded by it in Initials Games's quirky platformer.

You will, however, be jumping and running a lot here, so it might be best to swipe a couple of bottles from the factory floor. You don't want to overheat now, do you.

Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage (iPad, iPhone)

Ice! That will definitely work. And this Rovio-published puzzler is full of it.

Granted, you do have to smash it up with a hammer, which will probably counteract the cooling properties of the frozen water, but some of the chips might fall in your pants.

And, well, that'd be nice.

Where's My Water? (iPad, iPhone, Android)

Glorious, damp, life-giving water. I mean, there's an alligator in the way, sure, and he's pretty possessive. I reckon if you're quick, though, you'll be able to grab a glass or two.

Plus, you'll find getting Swampy out of a bind or 50 so absorbing that you'll forget all about the blistering sun outside.

Exactly.

Ski Safari (iPad, iPhone, Android)

If all else fails, you can just bury yourself under an avalanche. Which is something you're going to be doing a lot of in Ski Safari.

Some creatures will attempt to hug you while you play, but you should be able to shake them off and get your core temperature low enough to function as normal.
