Your iOS or Android Game of the Week - Layton Brothers: Mystery Room

One of our jobs here at Pocket Gamer is to dig through the hundreds of apps that hit the App Store and Google Play every single day, and unearth those glittering gems.

Lately, though, we've been giving you the chance to have YOUR say, too. Basically, we've been giving you the opportunity to tell us your favourite game from a shortlist of the week's best releases.

This week's votes have been counted (and recounted), and we have a winner - Layton Brothers: Mystery Room.

In this adventure / sleuthing hybrid, Level-5 tells the story of Professor Layton's son Alfendi Layton. Alfendi works at Scotland Yard and spends his time solving some pretty gruesome murders.

You play as Lucy, Alfendi's young assistant. You'll need to use your powers of deduction to figure out who committed a series of heinous crimes.

You'll poke around crime scenes, interview suspects, and put together cases based on the evidence you find.

When it's time to point the finger of guilt, you'll see whether your guess tallies up with that of the enigmatic Alfendi.

J'accuse!

With some brilliant writing, a gorgeous art style, and more puzzles than you can shake a gavel at, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is a riveting and enthralling ride.

At review, we said that "this Layton may not take after his famous dad, but his thrilling, fast-paced mysteries make this the gaming equivalent of a page-turner." We promptly gave the game a Silver Award.

You can try out the first chunk of Layton Brothers: Mystery Room for free right now. If you like what you play, you can buy the rest of the game via in-app purchases. And we suspect you will.
