Samsung finally officially unveils its super-durable Galaxy S4 Active handset
This bad boy will take some beating
Samsung's answer to the Sony Xperia Z is now officially official. Yep, the ruggedised Galaxy S4 Active is here. To stay.
The Galaxy S4 Active is, in effect, a repackaged and more durable version of the standard Galaxy S4. In fact, it's rated IP67 for protection against dust and water.
That means you can submerge the Galaxy S4 Active in fresh water at a depth of one metre for at least 30 minutes without any degradation. Great for the bath or pool, then.
To keep the overall size of this ultra-durable handset down, Samsung has replaced the 13-megapixel camera in the regular Galaxy S4 with an 8-megapixel snapper here.
On the photographic plus side, though, Sammy has incorporated a new "Aqua mode" into its rugged blower. This will enhance photos and videos taken underwater. You can use the Galaxy S4 Active's volume key as a shutter release, by the way.
With regards to the Galaxy S4 Active's other vital statistics, it sports a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, LTE 4G support, expandable memory (on top of 16GB internal storage), a 2600mAh battery, an infrared port, and a 5-inch full-HD display.
The Galaxy S4 Active will be available later in the summer in grey, orange, and blue.Galaxy S4 vs Galaxy S4 Active comparison
