The soundtrack to Tetris was so popular that it spawned a Europop single. According to Wikipedia, this 'tune' was the brainchild of Andrew Lloyd Webber. No, really.

I tell you this because Alexey Pajitnov, the original designer of Tetris, has released his first iOS game. It's called Marbly, it's a puzzle game, and you should definitely play it with the sound turned down.

The game is a simple looking match-three puzzler in which you are presented with a grid of marbles. You need to move these marbles into groups of three or more to clear them. Get rid of them all and you can move on to the next level.

You can only move marbles in straight lines, mind. And if they don't end up in a group of at least three, they'll just ping back to where they started from.

Much like Tetris, Marbly contains a simple central concept that turns tough pretty quickly.

Marble-ous?

As you might imagine given Pajitnov's sonic history, Marbly's chirpy soundtrack is so annoying that after listening to it for more than a minute you're likely to crush your iOS device into shards and go on a murderous rampage.

In terms of gameplay, you get a limited number of retries, hints, and solutions here. When you've used them all up, you'll have to buy some more using the in-game currency. Run out of that, and you'll have to buy more... and it ain't cheap.

Marbly is available from the App Store now for free as a Universal app. And while it is ugly - and is about as audio-friendly as Daphne and Celeste - it's still worth a look.
