Incoming! The most exciting iOS and Android games for June and beyond
|

May was a very good month for new iPhone, iPad, and Android games.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright Trilogy HD, Warhammer Quest, Combo Crew, and plenty of other fresh releases left our review room clutching a prestigious PG Award.

But June is shaping up to be just as good.

Below are ten titles (okay nine titles and an Android-powered console) that have the potential to walk away with Bronze, Silver, Gold, and maybe even Platinum accolades.

Fist of Awesome
By Nicoll Hunt - coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android sometime in June or July

If you've punched burly boxers in the face, roundhouse-kicked black belt-wearing karate specialists in the gut, and beaten evil scientists to a bloody pulp, you'll no doubt be looking for somebody (or something) else to punish.

Luckily, this upcoming Streets of Rage-style side-scrolling brawler allows you to smack the stuffing out of miffed bison and peeved bears. Job done.

Sparkle 2
By 10tons - coming to iPhone and iPad on June 6th; to Android later

In this aptly named sequel to 10tons's match-three puzzler Sparkle, you're - once again - tasked with hurling coloured balls at a snake-like string of similarly coloured spheres.

Your aim is to match three of more orbs of the same colour, and destroy the chains of moving balls before it reaches a level's exit.

Kingdom Rush: Frontiers
By Ironhide Game Studio - coming to iPhone and iPad on June 6th

If you're a massive fan of tower defence titles, you'll have played Kingdom Rush. It nabbed a prestigious Gold Award when it landed on the App Store back in December 2011, after all.

Ironhide Game Studio is hoping to build on the success of Kingdom Rush by packing its sequel full of new units, towers, and enemies.

Scurvy Scallywags
By Gilbert & Kauzlaric - coming to iPhone and iPad on June 6th

There are many reasons why you should be excited about upcoming match-three puzzler Scurvy Scallywags. The main reason being that it was developed by Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert.

Naturally, your aim in this title is to match three or more similarly themed titles in order to move a grog-swilling pirate around a specially designed board that's filled with glittering treasures and other sea dwellers.

Ouya
By Ouya - coming to Android on June 25th

Okay, you've rumbled us. Ouya isn't a game. It's actually a tiny Android-powered home console on which you can play some of the best mobile titles from the past few years.

The likes of League of Evil, Worms, Dead Trigger 2, and the Gold Award-winning Saturday Morning RPG have all been confirmed for the system.

Leisure Suit Larry
By Replay Games - coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android at the end of June

In this HD remake of DOS and Apple II graphical adventure Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, you take on the role of Larry Laffer - a 40-year-old virgin who still lives in his mother's basement.

You have just two real-time hours to find the women of your dreams, otherwise your on-screen protagonist will commit suicide. If you try and cheat and hire a prostitute, you'll contract an STD and die.

Lovely.

Buddy & Me
By Sunbreak Games - coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android sometime in June

Buddy & Me is an extremely colourful endless-flying title in which you're tasked with guiding a small boy and his mysterious Falcor-like friend through a dangerous forest canopy.

There are plenty of endless-running titles on the App Store and Google Play. Why is this one so special? Well, because it's developed by Jason Behr, who's worked on the likes of Halo 4 and Metroid Prime.

League of Evil 3
By Ravenous Games - coming to iPhone and iPad sometime in June

Ravenous Software has yet to reveal specific gameplay details of League of Evil 3, but it's pretty safe to assume that it won't deviate very far from the gameplay found in League of Evil or its Silver Award-winning sequel.

So, expect to be traversing tricky bite-sized stages in search of hidden briefcases and evil scientists, whom you must punch square in the jaw.

Ring Run Circus
By Kalio - coming to iPhone and iPad sometime in June

Ring Run Circus is the App Store's very first "ringformer", which is - to be completely honest - just a platformer in which every level is made up of various rings.

In this ringformer (yeah, we're sticking with it), you're tasked with guiding one of three unique characters around multiple stages, collecting flowers and picking up keys en route to their exit.

Dead Trigger 2
By Madfinger Games - coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android sometime in June

Dead Trigger 2 is due out sometime this month, but we still don't know too much about it. Shadowgun developer Madfinger Games is playing its cards very close to its chest, you see.

According to Madfinger's co-founder Marek Rabas, though, Dead Trigger 2 will be even bigger, better, and much more addictive than its predecessor. Nuff said, really.
