There are very few developers out there who could get away with mixing the poetry of Robert Frost with a dreamlike fantasy setting and a central puzzling core, but Spry Fox is definitely one of them.

And that's exactly what the developer behind the Gold Award-winning Triple Town is setting out to do in Road Not Taken.

In this gorgeous-looking roguelike, you'll get the opportunity to discover what happens when you wander too far from the beaten track.

According to a new blog post on the developer's site, Spry Fox is experimenting with a "pointillist" approach to narrative in Road Not Taken.

So, consider the entire game the canvas. Each animation, object, and piece of text represents a bit of paint on that canvas. You'll need to play through the game multiple times before the theme really starts to shine through.

Set in an enchanted forever-changing forest after a brutal winter storm, Road Not Taken is Spry Fox's most personal game to date. In it, the dev poses questions about the directions and choices we make in life.

If explorations of existential topics are a bit too high brow for your liking, bear in mind that you do also get to play as an adorable wizard.

We've no word yet on target platforms or pricing for Road Not Taken, but Spry Fox is hoping to launch the game by the end of the year.
