Are Android-powered consoles the next big thing? The guys behind Ouya are betting they are, but they're not the only ones throwing a metaphorical hat into the ring.

The latest in this ever-growing line of mini set-top boxes that promise to bring the mobile gaming experience to your massive television is the GamePop, from BlueStacks.

Sure, it might look like an Ouya with a slice out of it but it's got a couple of tricks of its own up its tiny sleeve.

First up, it looks like the GamePop will sell on a subscription basis. $6.99 a month gets you access to about 500 games which will be "updated constantly".

You pay annually though, so your first payment will be $83.88. Throw in the $9.99 postage and you're left with a total of $93.83. Just less than Ouya is set to ship for when it's released.

Interestingly that price is only for May. After that you'll have to pay for the console as well, although there's no word on how much that will cost.

Still, in the bundle you get a controller, a GamePop device, an HDMI cable, and a power supply. You can also use your Android phone as a controller for some games, presumably linking the two devices via Bluetooth.

BlueStacks already has some pedigree in the Android department. It made its name as an Android virtualisation platform for Mac and PC - essentially a piece of software that lets you use Android apps on different devices.

If there's room in your heart and under your TV for another not-quite-a-console device, you can pre-order a GamePop here.
