Think you can do a better job than Red Sox owner John W. Henry?

Always thought you could be a better job than those billionaire baseball team owners, eh? Reckon you've got more stats 'game' than Billy Beane, do you?

Well, in Konami's upcoming freemium baseball-management game MLB Live Challenge, you'll get the chance to prove just that. And some.

In MLB Live Challenge for Facebook and iOS, you will be given the opportunity to build a baseball team made up of real-life players and - ahem - pitch them against other outfits online.

Picking the best team at the start of the year will not be sufficient to walk away with the gold, however, as players' performances in real life games will have a major bearing on the MLB Live Challenge action.

If, for example, Alex Rodriguez smashes a home run out of the park on a Tuesday night, anyone with A-Rod in his virtual roster will reap the reward overnight.

Keeping on top of 'your' sluggers' real-world performances will be vital, then, so the ability to pick up play on your iPhone directly from where you left off on Facebook should prove a key feature.

With a mixture of stat management and casual gameplay, MLB Live Challenge could be an essential download for baseball fans when it pitches up on iOS and Facebook later this spring.

True, he could have woken up at 6am each day to play with friends online in the UK, but he was never a morning person. Instead, he preferred a succession of meaningless encounters with Japanese teenagers. Now, he is hooked.
