Slivers and Sealed Play will make their Duels of The Planeswalkers debuts in Magic 2014

If you're not hideously confused by terms like 'tournament deck', 'sealed pool', and 'TCG booster packs', then you're probably awaiting the release of Magic 2014 - Duels of The Planeswalkers with bated breath.

The 2013 instalment of Magic: The Gathering on iOS proved sufficiently compelling to get our card-collecting pulses racing.

Hence, we gave it a Gold Award, and called it a "superb strategy game that offers up a complete package of single-player and multiplayer card combat" in our review.

Well, more details are starting to trickle out about this year's version, including news of the return of fan-favourite creature type the Slivers. These hive mind monsters have whip-like tails, armoured bodies, and one arm equipped with a deadly claw.

The Sliver cards in Magic 2014 will include the Sliver Construct, Megantic Sliver, and the Bonescythe Sliver, none of whom you'd want to meet in a dark alley.

We can also expect to see Sealed Play making its debut in the Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise in the Magic 2014 game. Players will be able to use digital booster packs to build decks for battles against AI or real-life opponents.

In PvE mode, you'll work your way up a six-tiered ladder using monocoloured sealed decks to fight against the Planeswalkers, then battle a final character with a "boss" sealed deck.

Magic 2014 - Duels of The Planeswalkers is due out in the summer for iPad and, representing a first for the series, for Android tablets.
