Following the revelation that Barnes & Noble has slashed the price of its Nook HD slates, the US book retailer / tablet manufacturer has some more exciting news for us all.

Yep, as you may have gathered from the headline, Barnes & Noble has done a deal with Google to integrate the search giant's digital media marketplace, Google Play, into its Nook HD line of tablets.

This, as you can imagine, is a pretty big deal.

Instead of having to search through a limited selection of curated content on the Nook Apps store, Nook HD punters can now dive headlong into a veritable ocean of apps - 700,000 applications and counting - on Google Play.

Plus, you'll still be able to download content from Barnes & Noble's proprietary Nook App store.

Barnes & Noble has also struck a deal with The Big G to provide Google services on its tablets. So, Google Search, YouTube, Google Maps, and the Chrome browser will all be available on the Nook HD and HD+.

On reviewing the Nook HD late last year, I discovered there was a like to lot about this piece of hardware. In fact, the only grievance I had with it was the limited app selection.

Now that's no longer 'a thing', though, you should probably take advantage of that aforementioned price cut, for demand for the Nook HD is likely to be much higher now.

He always had a hunch mobiles would become quite popular, but possibly didn't realise how powerful (and, ironically, returning to 20 minutes between charges). Jonathan's job is to continue advising on the best hardware to buy, in order to enjoy games that have advanced considerably since those long days and nights testing Double Dragon on the C64.
