Update: The original version of this story reported that Cross Horizon is available in North America. As of May 3, it is not - yet! - the original story follows.

While many Vita owners are waiting for Marvelous AQL's action RPG Muramasa Rebirth, the developer has been quietly working on another mysterious project called Cross Horizon.

With a logo that - ahem - strongly evokes the feel of Square's Chrono Cross, Cross Horizon is a new RPG that's built from the ground up to feel at home on mobile devices.

Gone is the familiar turn-based battle mechanic, and in its place is a touch-based system similar to XSEED's Ark of the Ages.

This means that rather than just tapping on "Attack" and "Defend", you'll need to anticipate an enemy's moves and defend against them with your shield while tapping out a furious combo on their faces.

Outside of the novel approach toward combat, Cross Horizon offers many traditional RPG elements like story-driven questing, dungeon crawling, and equipment upgrading.

Once your weapons and armor are appropriately maxed out, you can take the fight to the evil Bandit King who's apparently tougher than his title suggests.

To overcome his vile, yet regal, banditry, you'll need to call on a few friends to help you out. Thankfully, this is handled through an inventive party management system that allows you recruit a friend's character into your party.

Once recruited, these characters will follow you obediently and are yours to command in battle.

If this sounds like the type of RPG experience that you've been waiting for, you'll unfortunately need to wait for a bit - we don't have word on when, or if, Cross Horizon will come to Europe or North America.

You can still check out its Google Play listing to learn more about the game, however.
