The new Final Fantasy Tactics title is being developed for the Mobage platform

Square Enix has announced that the latest off-shoot of its Final Fantasy Tactics series will be heading to iOS and Android.

Entitled Final Fantasy Tactics S, this instalment in the strategically slanted franchise has been developed for the Mobage social gaming platform.

The latter fact will probably mean two things.

Firstly, this will almost certainly be a free-to-play title.

Secondly, there's a very good chance Final Fantasy Tactics S will be a card battler.

Cards on the table

You see, CCGs like Rage of Bahamut and Marvel: War of Heroes have been monster hits on Mobage. In fact, a fairly slick-looking Transformers card battler with Mobage support surfaced only yesterday.

If Final Fantasy Tactics S does turn out to be a collectible card game, we anticipate howls of disappointment from fans of the original 1998 PlayStation version of Final Fantasy Tactics.

We'll have to wait for more details to emerge before we can speculate any further about Final Fantasy Tactics S, mind.

In the meantime, you can refresh your memory by downloading Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for iPhone now [download].
