Nintendo announces new 'easy' mode and other exclusive content for Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

It looks like 3DS owners will be getting more content than they anticipated when they pick up the handheld port of Donkey Kong Country Returns.

For starters, the 3DS version - published by Nintendo and developed by Monster Games - of this 2010 Wii title will feature a new "easier" difficulty mode. This mode will provide players with three hearts instead of the standard two.

If you're still finding the going too tough, you'll also have the option to throw some Banana Coins at Cranky Kong to purchase life-saving items.

Perhaps more interesting, though, is the news that if Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D players collect all four of the K-O-N-G letters found in each stage (and grab a couple of additional puzzle pieces), they will unlock "extra content".

This content will include special stages like the "super-tough" Trophy levels. Conquer all of these, and you can look forward to "a brand new surprise".

You can explore Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D's new features when it lands in stores on May 24th.

James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
