Incoming! The most exciting iOS and Android games for April and beyond
|

It's that time of the month again. Yes, we're about to take a look at some of the most exciting games scheduled to hit the App Store and Google Play over the coming weeks and months.

March was an incredibly strong month in terms of new iOS and Android releases.

Nimble Quest, Ms. Splosion Man, Unmechanical, Ridiculous Fishing, and a raft of other fresh titles all managed to bag shiny Pocket Gamer Awards at review.

Fingers crossed April - and the weeks that follow it - yield just as many high-quality titles.

Fist of Awesome

Fist of Awesome (from the developer behind the excellent Hard Lines) is very similar to classic side-scrolling beat-'em-up Streets of Rage.

Just swap out the latter game's chiselled protagonist for a homicidal lumberjack and replace its street-hardened thugs with seriously peeved-off bison and bears.

Iron Man 3
By Gameloft - coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android on April 25th

Iron Man 2 was a great movie. Gameloft's mobile take on Jon Favreau's action-packed flick - unfortunately - wasn't as good. It was actually pretty dreadful.

We have high hopes for this forthcoming mobile instalment of Tony Stark's never-ending battle against evil, though.

Why? Well, because Gameloft has eschewed the first-person adventure template and gone down the pretty impressive-looking Temple Run 2-style auto-flier route in this third iteration.

Random Heroes 2
By Ravenous Games - coming to iPhone and iPad in April

Another pixel-art platformer from the guys behind League of Evil, Beatdown!, Burrito Bison, and - of course - Random Heroes.

This time around, your mission is to smack baddies around the chops across 90 bite-sized levels that feature - as always - collectibles (stars, in this case) and hidden skulls.

You then use these skulls to upgrade your various characters and their weapons.

Frozen Synapse
By Mode 7 Games - coming to iPad and Android in May

Cult PC hit Frozen Synapse is a turn-based tactical shooter in which you help a small resistance faction overcome a corporate government regime that's using its power for all sorts of wrong-doing.

Oh, you can battle other players from around the world, too.

This title features cross-platform play, meaning you can begin a battle on your PC, wipe out most of your opponent's forces on your iPhone, and finish him off on an Android-powered tablet of your choice.

Scurvy Scallywags
By Gilbert & Kauzlaric - coming to iPhone and iPad in April

Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG (to give it its full name) is an upcoming pirate-themed puzzler from Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert.

According to Gilbert, this new title will feature enough collectible shirts, heads, swords, and ships to sink, well, another ship.

Lumber Jacked
By Everplay - coming to iPhone and iPad in April

What are you supposed to do when a group of thieving beavers steal the timber you've worked so hard to acquire?

You chase the flea-ridden buggers down and reclaim your wares, of course.

In pixel-art platformer Lumber Jacked, you do just this across a series of side-scrolling levels that are all packed with crafty puzzles and even-craftier semi-aquatic rodents.

Fish Out Of Water
By Halfbrick - coming to iPhone and iPad on April 18th

Flick colourful fishies (with different attributes) and use power-ups to propel them as far as you possibly can across the open water.

That's the aim of the game in this upcoming physics-based title.

Fish Out Of Water's developer, Halfbrick, is also responsible for Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, so we're expecting this forthcoming title to be thoroughly addictive.

Gemini Rue
By Wadjet Eye Games - coming to iPhone and iPad on April 11th

If you've had an eye on the hallowed pages of Pocket Gamer over the past couple of months, you'll be more than familiar with neo-noir point-and-click adventure Gemini Rue.

You haven't?! You're not?!

Okay, well, Wadjet Eye Games's imminent iOS title is set in a faraway galaxy during the 23rd century, and revolves around a lawman named Azriel Odin who's searching for his missing brother.

Expect puzzles. Lots of puzzles.

Wayward Saga
By RocketCat Games - coming to iPhone and iPad in May

In this follow-up to Mage Gauntlet, you're - once again - given a weapon and asked to hack, slash, and loot your way through floors of randomly generated dungeons.

Like in all action-RPGs, you earn experience points as you slay monsters here. These points eventually enable you to level-up and increase your chances of surviving your hostile surroundings.

According to Wayward Saga developer Kepa Auwae, this game will pack a "Zelda plus Dark Souls vibe".

Warhammer Quest
By Rodeo Games - coming to iPhone and iPad this spring

This spring, Hunters 2 creator Rodeo Games is launching the world's first Warhammer mobile game, Warhammer Quest, for the iPhone and iPad.

As you probably already know, this forthcoming digital boardgame is based on the 1995 physical boardgame of the same name.

We're eager to get our mitts on this one. So eager.
