Wizards & Warp Drives sets Dungeons & Dragons in space, puts a dragon in a jetpack

A dark wizard decides to conquer an innocent fantasy world and inadvertently blasts himself, a handful of heroes, and a big scary dragon into outer space.

Now, behind the controls of space ship, it's up to you to take out the wizard and his minions shmup-style and prevent them from completing their evil schemes.

This is the unlikely world of the newly announced Wizards & Warp Drives - a fantasy space shooter teased at PAX East.

Created by the same minds who brought us the Gold Award-winning zombie parody Organ Trail, Wizards & Warp Drives looks like quite the compelling mash-up of genres.

Orc Trek: The Next Generation

TouchArcade reports that the arcade-style shooter should be out in the next six months, but we already have a good idea of what we can expect from the game.

For starters, the space shooter with a fantasy twist will feature a local co-op multiplayer mode, a defined class system, and plenty of gigantic, randomly generated enemy ships to fight.

Also, there will be vampires. In space.

We'll be following the development of this one closely, and with any luck we’ll see it out on the App Store by early autumn.
