iOS and Android Game of the Week - your vote needed
|

Every week, thousands of new games hit the iOS App Store and Google Play on Android. Trying to find the diamonds in the rough is no easy task, let us assure you.

We like to think we do a pretty good job with our news articles, mid-week round-ups, expert reviews, and comprehensive features, mind.

But, now we want to know what YOU think.

Every Thursday, we're going to ask you to pick the best game that was released on iOS and Android that week (from the nominations below), and then we'll present that winner in a glamorous article next Monday.

There are loads of places to vote. Leave a comment at the bottom of this article, or reply to our Game of the Week tweet, answer the poll on Facebook. Alternatively, boot up the game on your smartphone, strap it to a carrier pigeon, and aim it at our offices.

The nominations
Mini Ninjas (iPhone, iPad) Instead of porting the third-person hack 'n' slash gameplay of the the original to mobile, Magic Pockets opted to produce a touchscreen-friendly 2.5D endless-runner instead. Familiar, but fairly polished.
Sonic Dash (iPhone, iPad) "Make a Sonic endless-runner!" we said. So Sega did. "No, a 2D one!" we responded ungratefully. "But... Temple Run..." Sega sighed. You can't blame them, I suppose. It's not bad, either.
Sling It! (iPhone, iPad, Android) Bland screens aside, I have it on good authority that this pull-and-release physics shooter triumphantly flies the flag of quality raised by its Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning predecessor.
Outland Games (iPhone, iPad) Another endless-runner, this time set in the Monday Night Combat universe. Sprint towards victory while the game show narrator comments on your parkour excellence. Then die before you get there.
Danmaku Unlimited 2 (iPhone, iPad) If you're sick of games which have you endlessly running, why not try one where you're endlessly shooting instead? We were rather fond of this bullet-hell blaster, and think you should take a look.
Metal Slug X (iPhone, iPad) It's Metal Slug 2. Again. Sort of. In actual fact, this revamped version of the franchise's first sequel sorted out slowdown issues, added more enemies, and let you strap on the Iron Lizard. (It's a gun, in case you were wondering.)
James Gilmour
James Gilmour
James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
