Welcome to "Best of the rest - Android edition", Pocket Gamer's round-up of all the new 'droid games that we didn't find the time to cover this week.

Hundreds of new games hit Google Play every day, so we can never write about everything. Instead, we pick and choose the most interesting and noteworthy apps.

To make sure no one is left out, though, we like to chuck a few of the most exciting 'leftover' new Android games in this here article.

Let us know if you like the look of any of these.

Tower defence is a cracking genre. However, if there's one thing we at Pocket Gamer like more than defending, it's offending.

Wait... Oh, you know what we mean.

City Conquest is a hybrid strategy / tower defence title that houses both play-styles under one virtual roof.

Set in a sci-fi universe, the game contains missions that exclusively involve attack or defence, and a handful which offer both options simultaneously.

Then, once you've dealt with the 20 single player missions, you can take the fight online over 5 multiplayer maps. It's free to download now.

Bionfly
By Kami Retro - download for Android

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Bender from Futurama and Claptrap from Borderlands got into a smelting accident and became one enity?

Well, you'll want to check out the chromed protagonist of 2D platformer Bionfly.

As for the game, you know the score by now: 8-bit visual style, chiptune soundtrack, and an unhealthly obsession with spike pits.

Your mechanical avatar must jump and float through 20 levels of side-scrolling mayhem, collecting Onyx stones as he goes. For some reason. Don't ask us why.

Pixel Dungeon
By watabou - buy on Android

Before you say anything, we know that Pixel Dungeon has been out on Google Play since January.

The thing is, our enjoyment of excellent roguelike Dungelot has caused us to search out new dungeon exploration titles to lose ourselves in.

Enter Pixel Dungeon, a playable beta which has drawn a buttload of positive feedback from the Android community. It features 15 pixel-art levels packed with items, monsters, and untimely death.

You can get involved with the beta now, and the dev promises to add 4-5 more levels, plus additional beasties and loot, when the game goes gold.

James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
