Last night, the gaming industry's finest converged on the London Hilton Hotel for the BAFTA Games Awards 2013.

Far from being overshadowed by big console titles, games from mobile and handheld teams walked away with no fewer than four of BAFTA's shiny gold statues.

For starters, fiercely addictive footy title New Star Soccer sneaked past AAA franchise behemoths FIFA 13 and Forza Horizon to claim the Sports / Fitness award.

As expected, the Best Story honour went to cross-platform juggernaut The Walking Dead: The Game. If there were a Reduced the Most Grown Men to Blubbering Heaps award, we suspect it would have won that, too.

SongPop creator FreshPlanet, meanwhile, found itself singing a ditty of delight, for its music trivia title beat Runescape and The Settlers Online to triumph in the Online - Browser category.

Finally, eerie puzzler and Pocket Gamer favourite The Room was named the finest interactive experience in the land, winning the Best British Game of 2013. Terry Cavanagh's Super Hexagon and Traveller's Tales Lego The Lord of the Rings were also in the running for that gong.

James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
