Earlier this month, we brought glad tides to fans of world builders and sandbox games - the wildly popular iOS builder The Sandbox would be coming to Google Play.

Now, true to its word, Pixowl has delivered the godly goods to the Android community although there are a few differences between the versions.

The Android version is human-free for the time being, although a future update will probably bring humble hominids into The Sandbox as it did in the iOS version back in December.

Gritty taste

Like the iOS version, The Sandbox requires users to purchase levels as they play through the game.

This obligation cost sits on top of the $5.99 / £3.99 IAP option to unlock all campaigns, and the 30 Basic Elements IAP pack which can be purchased for $6.99 / £4.99.

Google Play reviews for The Sandbox are mixed, with many users citing that the game is fun while others describe the IAP structure as "overwhelming".

The initial download is perfectly free, so if you've been waiting to give The Sandbox a crack on your Android device of choice - why not download it and judge for yourself?

Updated on February 20th, at 4:25: After an extensive side-by-side comparison of the iOS and Android versions, it is clear that they follow the same IAP pricing structure for the most part. One notable exception is that the Android release features full-screen ads for both the in-game store and other games (like Blood Brothers), while the iOS version is ad free. Updated on February 20th, at 9:30: A previous version of this story mischaracterised the game's in-app purchases in comparison with the iOS game, and mistakenly credited Bulkypix as the publisher of this Android edition. The story has been revised.
