Sony to slash price of PS Vita in Japan on February 28th
20% off wi-fi model, 35% off 3G model
Sony has announced that it will slash the price of the PS Vita in Japan later this month.
Both the wi-fi and 3G models of Sony's struggling handheld will retail for ¥19,980 (approximately £138 / $215) in the Vita maker's home territory from February 28th.
That equates to a roughly 20 per cent reduction on the wi-fi model's current ticket price, and a more substantial 35 per cent reduction on the 3G unit.
To mark the Vita's first official price drop, Sony is offering a free seven-day PlayStation Plus subscription to anyone who purchases the cut-price handheld before March 18th.
Falling starAlongside the Vita's price reduction - which has come a full year earlier than Sony had previously indicated - the Japanese manufacturer revealed that an Ice Silver model would be available on the day of the reduction.
Vita owners will also be able to download multiplayer online RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 for free on the same day (in Japan only).
Sony didn't say anything regarding similar price cuts in Europe and the US, but we suspect a similar announcement will follow soon.
