Frogmind has confirmed that its eerie upcoming side-scroller Badland will allow four players to go head-to-head on a single device.

To give us an idea of what to expect from Badland's multiplayer, Frogmind's Johannes Vuorinen and Juhana Myllys, both of whom are ex-Redlynx employees, posted a video on their site showing the new mode in action.

In the demo, we see four players fighting to keep their flying creature alive against all odds. To control their winged avatar, each player taps a specific quarter of the screen, assigned to him before the round begins.

Given that the game is based around Jetpack Joyride-style tap-to-fly mechanics (see video above), it's perfectly possible to control numerous characters on the same screen without obscuring the play area.

As you can see, the quartet of competitors must keep their respective beastie (identifiable by their different shapes and eye colours) alive through the game's trademark silhouette landscapes and mechanical obstacles.

The four avatars frequently collide, a factor which is compounded when players collect one of Badland's clone or growth power-ups.

The Badland map demoed, entitled Jungle Road, was one of six multiplayer maps spotted in the video.

The other maps seen on the menu screen - Multiwoods, Madness, No Mercy, Small Balls, and Badrally - are also expected to feature in the finished game, alongside another six as-yet-unnamed levels.

Frogmind has also pledged to add more levels to Badland via post-launch updates.

We look forward to participating in some raucous Badland four-way fly-offs - and exploring the single-player campaign - when the game goes live on iPhone and iPad in March.
