2012, eh?! Woof. And I'm not just referring to the London Olympics.

Last year marked the point at which Android gaming finally came of age. That's not to say every single game released between January and December 2012 on the Google Play Store was stellar. Some of them just, well, weren't.

Some, however, WERE splendiferous.

And so while Rayman Jungle Run sparked a sudden upsurge in RSI-related days off in 2012, and Angry Birds Star Wars actually DID live up to the hype, which were the best-reviewed games?

To answer that very question, here's the Android Quality Index (Qi) round-up for 2012.

Aggregating the reviews from the world's best websites, such as Android Rundown, Pocket Gamer, and Gamezebo, the Quality Index uses a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each Android title.

No objection!

Devil's Attorney tops the Android Qi games chart for 2012 with its refreshingly humorous take on turn-based strategy, the '80s, and the US criminal system.

Right on its heels on this end-of-year league table is Rovio's Bad Piggies HD, which represents a triumphant diversion for the Angry Birds series.

In Bad Piggies HD, you see, you're asked to switch allegiances to those greedy green pigs and build a series of wacky contraptions to aid their escape.

Pulling up at 'platform' #3, meanwhile, Trainyard impresses with its gently taxing logic puzzles and unique diagram-like art style.

The second of Noodlecake's four - yes, four! - entries on this best-of-2012 rundown is tough-as-nails 2D platformer League of Evil.

With sharp retro-inflected visuals and water-tight platform mechanics, League of Evil is a truly heroic effort. Ruddy difficult, mind. I may have said that already.

N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the list is generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all. And, naturally, this is a static graph based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge. In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the Android games released each month to provide definitive Qi top tens throughout 2013.
