Electronic Arts has confirmed to Pocket Gamer that the much anticipated driving sim Real Racing 3 will miss its 2012 launch window, and won't appear on the starting grid until the end of February 2013.

The game was unveiled at the iPhone 5 press conference back in August. It looks to up the ante from the incredible Real Racing 2 in just about every way. It's got more cars, real world tracks, and a bigger career mode.

It will also have even better graphics on the latest iOS and Android devices - including dynamic reflections, and proper rearview mirrors so you can watch your opponents eat your dust.

Ghost racer

There's also something Firemonkeys likes to call "Time Shifted Multiplayer". This uses Game Center challenges so your friends can compete against your best lap times.

"They are not competing against a ghost, they are competing against my Time Shifted double," the game's executive producer, Rob Murray, told us in an interview. "By colliding with my double or even just forcing me off the racing line, they can actually impact my race time."

Sadly, you'll have to wait a little longer to actually give it a go.

In a statement, an EA spokesperson told us, "our goal for Real Racing 3 is to create an experience that resets the bar for racing games on mobile, and we wanted to take some extra time to get it right."

"We look forward to releasing Real Racing 3 by the end of February."

You'll just have to make do with Ravensword: Shadowlands, Pudding Monsters, Shadow Warrior, Final Fantasy IV, and Anomaly Korea as your last iOS games before Christmas. However will you cope?
