Apple dons Santa outfit and unwraps app-gifting service on iOS 6
Peace, goodwill, and apps to all men
Ah, presents. There's nothing quite like admiring a well-made parcel, shaking it to guess what's inside, and then tearing the wrapping to pieces with your razor-sharp gift talons.
Apple will never quite be able to replicate this feeling with digital items, but it's trying its best.
Yep, after The Big A removed the gift of giving from the App Store (a feature that went live in early 2010) with the rollout of iOS 6 in September, Tim Cook has decided to re-introduce this option just in time for Christmas.
Time for givingSo, app 'gifting' is back. And if you're feeling particularly generous this Xmas, here's how you can buy a copy of, say, Rayman Jungle Run on iOS for your loved one.
First off, launch the App Store. Start typing in 'Rayman Ju...' into the Search box. Select Rayman Jungle Run from the list of suggestions, then click on the action sheet in the top right (yep, that right arrow thing).
You'll find the 'Gift' option in the bottom-right corner. After clicking on the 'Gift' icon, you can enter the email address of the recipient of your gift, write a message, and confirm the delivery date. Easy peasy.
