[Update] Tactical battler Dungeons & Dragons: Warbands assembles for conflict in Canada
Beta release only (Updated with formal response from Atari)
Atari is "making substantial fixes for the official launch later this month. For instance, Facebook connectivity will no longer be required, in addition to other updates."
Good news, Dungeons & Dragons fans! Yes, you!
As expected, Atari has soft-launched the first officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons game for mobiles on the Canadian App Store.
So, yes, if you're a resident of Ottawa or Toronto, you can now grab the beta version of Dungeons & Dragons: Warbands from your local App Store for free. Lucky you. On both counts.
Set in the Forgotten Realms, Warbands is a turn-based miniatures game in which you build up a team of warriors and monsters, then duke it out with opponents in single-player mode or online multiplayer.
Atari seems determined to push the social aspect of the game, so you're gonna need a Facebook account and a persistent internet connection to play... even when playing solo.
The consensus among the Canadian iPad gamers who have either installed this new fantasy battler or tried to install it isn't great, to be honest, with talk of game-breaking bugs going around. Hopefully, these will be squished before a wider release.
Dungeons & Dragons: Warbands for iPad is out now on the Canadian App Store for free "for a limited time". Let us know what YOU make of it in the comments section below.
