Possibly due to local tax increases

Back in July 2011, Apple tweaked its App Store prices in several territories, including in the UK, in accordance with fluctuations in foreign exchange rates (at the time).

Once Apple had finished working out its adjustments, 59p apps turned into 69p apps in Great Britain, and it was a sad day for all here at PG Towers.

Apple's bean counters have been putting in overtime lately, it seems, for the firm has decided to make changes to the price points in some of its European App Stores.

The base price of apps in Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Belgium, Slovenia, and several other EU countries has just risen from 79c to 89c.

Luckily, the UK has managed to fly under Apple's radar this time around, so you can put those pennies back in your piggy bank.

Times are changing

Why this change now? Well, The Next Web reckons it's due to an increase in local taxes, but we suspect it's also down to changes in the exchange rate.

Apple has also taken this opportunity to add several new currencies to its global App Stores, such as Russian rubles, Turkish lira, Indain rupees, Indonesian rupish, Isreali new shekels, Saudi Arabian riyal, South African rand, and UAE dirham.
