Infinite Scoop: iPad mini to debut on October 23rd, comes in 8 versions

Each and every day, we have to sit at our desks in Pocket Gamer Towers and sort through hundreds of new - and often outlandish - iPhone and iPad rumours.

It's a bit of a boring job. But, we've had a brainwave.

Instead of reporting on every single rumour that we stumble across while surfing the interwebs, we're simply going to feature the juiciest (no pun intended) Apple-related tittle-tattle in a handy weekly round-up.

Sound good? Then read on.

How much is that mini in the window?

If leaked images of an inventory system are to believed, Apple's heavily-rumoured iPad mini will be available in eight different flavours - the most expensive of which will set you back a whopping £520.

You'll apparently be able to grab the small tablet in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants. Naturally, 3G functionality is optional.

Speed dating

Another iPad mini rumour. According to Reuters (which has a decent track record with Apple-related gossip), an iPad mini will be officially unveiled at a special event on October 23rd.

AllThingsD has corroborated this rumour.

The event is booked

TheNextWeb also believes that Apple will host an iPad mini event on October 23rd, but the website believes that the Cupertino-based company will focus on its iBooks digital store.

It makes sense. If Apple does release a smaller iPad, it will likely be to compete with Amazon's series of Kindle eBook readers and smaller slates.

Power to the people

Over the weekend, MacRumors found some images that are purported to show the iPad mini's battery.

The power unit in question has a 16.7 watt-hour capacity, which places it between the iPhone 5 (with its 5.45 watt-hour capacity) and the third-gen iPad (with its 42.5 watt-hour capacity).
