It's possibly the closest that a successful Kickstarter has ever come to failure. Dungeon crawling RPG Sword of Fargoal 2 passed its target of $50,000 within the very last hours, by a meagre $161.

Jeff McCord and Fargoal LLC opened up a Kickstarter last month in the hopes of funding a Sword of Fargoal sequel that's "reimagined, reworked, and stuffed with awesome new features".

This roguelike follow-up will have more spells, monsters, and music; better graphics and animation; and new characters types, quests, dungeon-generation systems, and character classes.

All's well that ends well

"So many people to thank," McCord said, in a Kickstarter update after the funding round ended. "Good deeds, kind hearts, and wonderful experiences interacting with one and all. The proper thanks is yet to come - with the most amazing Sword of Fargoal 2 that you've ever seen."

The game is currently scheduled for release in May 2013. It will be released on iOS, PC, Mac, and Linux.
