Capcom reveals that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will work across both 3DS and Wii U

In recent times, Sony has been shouting quite loudly about the PlayStation Cross Play service, which allows you to play certain games across both the PS3 and the PS Vita.

It's all lovely stuff and we're keen to see more of it. Now, it looks like we may we seeing more of the same cross-platform goodness on Nintendo consoles, too.

Capcom explained to Eurogamer that the 3DS and Wii U versions of its upcoming Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate title (due out in the US and Europe in March 2013) will be able to work in tandem.

Save the game in one version, and you'll be able to continue on the other version - great for if you're blasting through the game on Wii U and need to go out with your 3DS in hand.

Multi-console multiplayer

You can also play the game in multiplayer fashion across the two consoles: one person on the Wii U with three 3DSs connected to it via wi-fi.

What this means is that friends can store their save data on their 3DS handheld, bring it over to your house, and you can all jam away together in sweet, sweet Monster Hunter harmony.

Unfortunately, the 3DS version of the game doesn't have online multiplayer, but, hey, this definitely makes up for it.

So, there you have it: cross-play appears to be the future for consoles. If all this means more games for the 3DS and Vita, we're definitely not going to complain.
