Is your iPhone 5 scuffed or scratched?

Some early adopters of the iPhone 5 have reported that their brand new handsets are arriving with cosmetic damage.

The most common complaint is that punters are gleefully lifting the lid off their purchase, only to discover that the iPhone 5 within is scratched or scuffed (see below for an example).

Reports of this issue have appeared on various forums and threads, with journalists also sharing their own 'pre-scuffed' iPhone 5 woes.

Though some have blamed the anodizing process used to colour the aluminium on the black iPhone 5 models, the same damage has also been spotted on white units, too.

Even if your new handset arrives unscuffed, iFixit's highly scientific video of a toddler abusing both the iPhone 4S and an iPhone 5 with metal objects (below) shows that the new model is likely to succumb to scratches and scuffs far more quickly than last year's model.
