HTC and Microsoft reveal the Windows Phone 8X and 8S
Stealing the limelight from Nokia's new Lumia?
HTC has pulled back the curtain on the Windows Phone 8X and 8S - two new handsets which are the result of a direct collaboration between the Taiwanese manufacturer and Microsoft.
Clearly positioned to compete with Nokia's own flagship Windows handset, the Lumia 920, the Windows Phone 8X boasts a 4.3-inch 720p display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.
It also rocks an 8-megapixel camera capable of capturing 1080p video. It comes loaded with Dre Beats technology, too, including an actual 1.5 volt amplifier to give owners of large headphones a bit more punch.
The Windows Phone 8S, meanwhile, is a slightly more restrained affair: it sports a smaller 800x480 screen, is powered by a 1GHz dual-core chip, and possesses half the RAM and a quarter of the storage space of the 8X.
Though it may lack the top-tier specs of its flagship sibling, HTC's Windows Phone 8S can still record 720p video, and get down with some Dre Beats tech (though not that built-in amp).
Speaking at a conference in New York City today, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer described the two handsets as "HTC and Microsoft's biggest partnership yet".
Both handsets will come in a range of striking colours, including blue, red, and yellow, with the Windows Phone 8S boasting some rather fetching two-tone options.
A launch date of early November for both blowers has been confirmed.
