No online multiplayer for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3DS

Capcom has revealed that the 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will not support online play.

Last week, Nintendo whipped hunting guilds into a frenzy when it announced the Western release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (video at the bottom).

This good news was accompanied by talk of cross-platform play between the 3DS and Wii U versions.

However, Capcom's Yuri Araujo probably dampened just a few spirits when he revealed that Capcom "has no plans" to include online multiplayer functionality in the 3DS version.

All is not lost, though.

SVP at Capcom Christian Svensson (my, my, he's been a busy boy of late) was quick to assure disheartened 3DS owners that, despite the omission of online features, "there shouldn't be any difference in content" between the handheld and Wii U versions.

This means handheld lovers will still be able to indulge in local four-player hunts using the 3DS's wireless capabilities.

Will the absence of online play be enough to make Monster Hunter fans think twice about the 3DS version? We'll find out in March 2013.
