Konami announces Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops at 25th anniversary MGS event

Konami has used its ongoing 25th anniversary Metal Gear Solid event to unveil a new sneak-'em-up for smartphones and tablets, which will be available worldwide later this year.

This upcoming game, which is called Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops, is a fully 3D title for the GREE platform that's powered by the Unity engine.

Gameplay details are rather scarce (and in Japanese) at the moment, but we do know that you'll have to co-operate with fellow players in order to defeat infamous war machine Metal Gear. Colour us excited.

Specific target platforms have yet to be announced, but it's probably safe to assume that both iOS and Android will be in the mix.

At the anniversary event, Hideo Kojima also announced a new open-world MGS title for PC and consoles called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which is being created using the next-gen Fox Engine, and a movie based on the franchise.
