PG Applympics 2012: Medal ceremony for the catapult event
|

After five nail-biting days of high-intensity voting in the catapult event at the inaugural PG Applympics, the proverbial whistle has blown and the competition has now closed.

All of the votes have been counted and verified by an independent adjudicator (Facebook) this morning. The results were then passed to me in a lavender-scented envelope by a boy dressed up as a freshwater fish.

Before I reveal the winner and runners-up in the catapulting category at PG Applympics 2012, a word from our sponsor. Only kidding. We STILL aren't that cynical.

But, seriously, we must take a moment to remember that Baron de Bennallack founded the PG Applympics to promote his philosophical ideal for video gaming competition. He expressed this ideal, thus:

"The important thing in life is the triumph, not the struggle. The essential thing is to have conquered, not to just fight well."

In more prosaic terms: "It's not the taking part that counts, it's the winning."

Always believe in your soul

So, with this noble philosophical ideal ringing in our collective ears, let's cross live to this year's final award ceremony at Kelston Park, Bath. Awwwwwwww.

PG deputy editor Will Wilson should be standing by next to the rostrum to present your three most popular catapulting games with their respective medals…
To-Fu: The Trials of Chi - Unlike those clowns over at the 'real' Olympics who somehow confused East Korea with West Korea, we never make amateur-hour mistakes here.

So, without further ado, I present to you the gold medallist in the catapulting category... Angry Birds Space. "Oh, what's that, Keith?" Oooops.

Saving Private Sheep 2 - If only there were some kind of annual ceremony for movies. You know, where war films could go bullet-to-bullet with spy dramas. If there were, Saving Private Ryan would get the nod from me every day.

Saving Private Sheep 2 - from French outfit Bulkypix - got a fair number of your votes in this ballot, mind. Bang.

Land-a Panda - And the very last award at this year's PG Applympics goes to trajectory-based puzzler Land-a Panda.

Pandas may well face extinction, but bronze certainly doesn't. Which is why we weren't afraid to splash out on our third-favourite metal alloy to produce this super-sized trinket. Go, Team PG!!
