PG Applympics 2012: Medal ceremony for the shooting event
|

After five inspirational days of high-octane voting in the shooting event at the inaugural PG Applympics, the proverbial whistle has blown and the competition has now closed.

All of the votes have been counted and verified by an independent adjudicator (Facebook) this morning. The results were then passed to me in a mauve envelope by an overweight dustman.

Before I reveal the winner and runners-up in the platforming category at PG Applympics 2012, a few words from the PG Applympics founder, Baron de Bennallack. (Or 'BdB', for short. He's not short, mind. Just saying.)

"My philosophical ideal for video gaming competition is as valid today as it was last week."

For those who have already forgotten de Bennallack's wonderful philosophy on sport, shame on you. Here it is again, though.

"The important thing in life is the triumph, not the struggle. The essential thing is to have conquered, not to just fight well."

Always believe in your soul

So, with this noble philosophical ideal ringing in our collective ears, let's cross live to this year's fifth award ceremony at Kelston Park, Bath.

PG deputy editor Will Wilson should be standing by in overalls to present your three most popular shooting games with their respective medals…
Shogun: Rise of the Renegade - Despite sharing a name with that frightfully ugly Mitsubishi 4x4, int13's Rise of the Renegade positively *cough* rose to the challenge in the Applympics shooting event.

The French publisher's gold-gobbling bullet-hell shooter made life *cough* hell for all of its competitors here in Bath. They still haven't recovered properly.

Shoot the Zombirds - Before they shoot you, I say. Gosh!

Anyways, with a smidgen over one third of the popular vote, Shoot the Zombirds is a deserving recipient of the silver medal. Would you believe me if I told you this game centred on a nefarious ostrich and a diabolical emu? Oh, you would? Dummy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies - What's this, squire?! Call of Duty in th... th... third place? Unheard of. I demand a recount. Now.

Well, blow me down and call me Susan. It's true. There was a stewards' enquiry over at Facebook an' all. Does this spell the end for Activision's bazillion-selling franchise? Of course not. Dummy.
