Gamescom '12: Sony announces firm release date for PS One Classic support
Coming (very) soon to a Vita near you
Earlier this summer, we reported that the upcoming 1.8 firmware release for the PlayStation Vita would introduce support for Sony's library of PS One Classics.
At Gamescom, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s president and CEO Jim Ryan put a firm release date on this firmware. Effective August 28th, PS Vita owners will have ability to play PS One classics on their Vitas once the new firmware is downloaded.
Given the paucity of available titles at the Vita's launch, many felt the lack of support for PS One Classics was an oversight. While the Vita is in the process of building a proper library of its own titles, it will be quite nice to have the option of playing PS One Classics on Sony's latest handheld.
Some titles shown at the conference included Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy VII.
